Bed bugs are oval, chestnut-brown insects and are flattened from top to bottom. Adult bed bugs measure about ¼ inch in length. Bed bugs grow by molting several times. Baby bed bugs, nymphs, look very much like the adults, except they are smaller. There are five molts, and each bed bug phase must have a blood meal to be able to molt to the next stage. Adults feed once a week on average but feed many times during their four-month lifespan.

4. Wash and dry your bedding on the highest heat settings. High temperatures can kill bed bugs and eggs, so you can feel confident your blankets, sheets, and pillow cases are free from bed bugs for the night. Repeat daily until the infestation is addressed.
5. Wear full clothes to bed. Bed bugs bite because they feed on your blood. Bed bugs are unable to bite through clothing, so you can make it difficult for them to find food by completely covering yourself with clothes like long pants, socks, and a long shirt. You can even wear gloves as an extra precaution.
